It’s confirmed: ANZ will (again!) face shareholder scrutiny on their continued financing of deforestation at their upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM).

Late last week, SIX submitted the paperwork to put our shareholder resolutions on the agenda at the bank's AGM on Thursday 17 December.

A big thank you for to the 200+ shareholders who helped unlock our right to submit a resolution.

Last year, 22.7% of ANZ shareholders ignored the board's recommendation to vote in support of our resolutions - this was the highest vote on a deforestation resolution in 2025!

Despite this high vote, the company has failed to meaningfully respond over this past year.

And this resolution comes just as our partners at Australian Conservation Foundation (ACF) published their third financed deforestation report which linked ANZ to 2,449 hectares of forest demolition!

So we're putting the issue firmly in the spotlight again.

What happens now?

  • Now that the resolution has been lodged, this will prompt big investors (like super funds and proxy advisors) to start discussing this issue with ANZ.

  • SIX and ACF are organising briefings with big investors to inform them about the resolutions. Big investors can make a difference through publicly declaring voting intentions and voting in favour of the resolution.
    ‍
  • We will also keep up our engagement with ANZ, giving the company the opportunity to act before December.

  • If ANZ doesn’t take action, the resolution goes to a vote of all shareholders at their AGM. Shareholders have a right to attend the AGM (in person in Perth or online), speak, and vote on resolutions (including ours).
